Thunivu is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language action Dram film. The film stars Ajith,Manju Warrier, Samuthrakani.
H. Vinoth wrote and directed the action heist movie Thunivu, which was produced by Boney Kapoor in the year 2023. Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, John Kokken, Ajay, and Veera play supporting parts alongside Ajith Kumar in the lead role.
The movie, the third together Ajith, Vinoth, and Kapoor following Nerkonda Paarvai (2019) and Valimai, was announced in February 2022 with the working title AK61 (Ajith’s 61st film in a leading role) (2022). In Hyderabad and Bangkok, principal photography began in April and ended that October. In September, the moniker Thunivu was revealed. Late in October, post-production work started, and it was finished in December.

Ghibran composed the music for the Thunivu Song Lyrics in Tamil, his 50th as a composer, and it’s his second time working with Ajith Kumar and Boney Kapoor after scoring Valimai (2022). On December 9 and December 18, respectively, the singles “Chilla Chilla” and “Kasethan Kadavulada” were made available. Only the song’s video version featured vocals by Manju Warrier. On December 25, “Gangstaa,” the third single, was made available.

In December 2022, Vinoth revealed in an interview to The Times of India, saying in response that the film is a heist film, that the film blends multiple genres and cannot be slotted under the particular genre. Vinoth said he narrated a single scene, written for a planned low-budget film, to Ajith; after he showed an interest in signing the film, Vinoth increased the scale of the project.Vinoth elaborated, “The film is about money. It is something that we use on a daily basis, but if someone asks us what money is, how currency operates and what reference money is, we’d hardly have an idea”. He further recalled that Ajith does not play a dual role in the film, as was speculated, and his character will be kept under wraps
According to reports, the film’s satellite and digital distribution rights went for 20 crore (US$2.5 million) and 65 crore (US$8.1 million), respectively. Red Giant Movies purchased the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights for 60 crore (US$7.5 million), bringing the total amount of the film’s international theatrical rights acquired to approximately 86.25 crore (US$11 million). The theatre rights for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were sold for a remarkably low amount of more than 3 crore (US$380,000) crores. The theatrical rights for Kerala and Karnataka were sold for more than 2.5 crore (US$310,000) and 3.6 crore (US$450,000), respectively. The Thunivu Song Lyrics in Tamil movie’s Hindi dubbing rights were sold for Rs. 25 crore (US$3.1 million). Theatrical rights outside of India were sold for Rs. 14 crore ($1.8 million).
Red Giant Movies purchased the Thunivu Song Lyrics in Tamil Tamil Nadu distribution rights on a profit-sharing basis. The movie would also be co-distributed by Romeo Pictures, which handled all of Kapoor’s Tamil film releases in the nation, including Valimai. The film would be released by the distributor in Sri Lanka, but would otherwise be distributed by Lyca Productions and Tentkotta through their sub-distributors: Sarigama Cinemas (United States), Boleyn Cinemas (United Kingdom and Europe), Phars Film (Middle East), Malik Streams (Malaysia and Singapore), Vansan Movies (Australia and New Zealand), and York Cinemas (Canada). Dil Raju purchased the film’s distribution rights for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under the name Radha Krishna Entertainments and Ivy Productions.
The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film were sold to Netflix, while the satellite rights of the film were sold to Kalaignar TV. The film was premiered on Netflix from 8 February 2023
